Insider Preview: The 5 major sections of Netplan August 20th, 2022

When we started building Netplan we knew from the get-go that planning for retirement isn’t about getting the perfect investment portfolio, getting a Will prepared or even having a specific amount of money in the bank. Preparing for retirement takes a holistic, integrated approach.

You need to understand a variety of topics in enough detail to dodge the common pitfalls and consider how changes in your life can affect different aspects of your retirement plan.

To add to this challenge, the Australian pension system changes all the time. So Netplan is also about keeping you up to date with these changes and making sure you’re reacting to them appropriately. With the added benefit that you can always come back and revisit these major topics whenever you need.

The core program is focussed on the 5 major sections listed below.

Each major section is then conveniently broken down into smaller topics, all explained in easily understood, always updated videos.

Getting ready for retirement and basic tax

This is all about getting your head around when you’re going to “pull-the-pin” and retire. We then give you a primer on basic tax (not a painful tax law lecture!!!) just to make sure that everyone’s on the same page.

Investments and how they work

These are the essentials of investments and will give you the knowledge that you need in order to effectively compare investments and know exactly where your money is going.

Super and account-based pensions

The Australian system relies on pensions to ensure people are equipped later in life, so it’s important you have a clear understanding of how superannuation funds and pensions work, in order to make sure yours is set up correctly for your situation.

Centrelink

Not everyone is going to be entitled to benefits. But there are loads of people who think they aren’t entitled but actually are! So in this section, we’ll explain how Centrelink makes these decisions and how you can potentially uncover some entitlements to support you in retirement.

Bringing it all together

This sounds like a wrap-up topic, but it’s actually an in-depth explanation of what happens when you eventually pass away, how you can leave money to the right people, and what happens to your investments. It’s about looking back on the last 4 sessions and making sure you’re configuring these things correctly.

With these 5 topics explained through easily understood videos and articles, Netplan will equip you to make decisions for your retirement, regardless of your current financial situation.

We’re creating Netplan to give more Australians the right know-how to make these decisions without breaking the bank. We hope this sneak-peak has helped shed some light on the structure of the program and you’re as excited as we are to get Netplan into your hands.
